Love thy neighbor

I invited some friends over for dinner last night. We had lasagna, both with bolognese and a vegetarian one, and an apple pie. Delicious! (I know I’m not allowed to say that since I was the one making it, but eeehhhh..) My friends brought wine, so we had loads of that too.

The dinner turned into another wine night and we played some drinking games. I guess we were quite loud, but it was Saturday, around Christmas and most of my neighbors were out of town. When we were about to leave (just before 2 am) the doorbell rang “bzzzzz bzzzzz bzzzzz”, angrily. We turned off the music and I opened the door. There was a man that I’ve never seen before, in his pajamas. I started saying perdón, perdón, perdón and that we were just about to leave, but this man was straight through mean and did not want to hear about it. He started yelling saying that we turn off the music now (hm, it was already off..) and that he was about to call the police, that people want to sleep, that people work and if we don’t turn off the music (that was already off) he’d throw us out of the apartment. Really strange.

I’ve lived here for 2 years and I’ve never really had a big party and I have never ever in my life been threatened like that without warning. I know we were loud, but this neighbor was weird. I understand if he wants to call the police and throw us out if this was a repeating case, but doing it before even telling us that he disliked our party? Nah, that’s not normal. Just rude. I’m pretty sure he did it because he saw that I was a guiri (foreigner, tourist) and he probably thought I was a student, clueless about life and just a party girl. But wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

I think I’ll go up there later today and apologize again and tell him that he does not have the right to approach me like that and especially not threaten me again.

But the night was good. Never let one person ruin your day.
